Notes: Depicts Cleveland in front of a standing stone bowing towards the figure of Minna, who is accompanied by Brenda, with a ship and rowing boat in background [Ch. 40]. Forms (attached) frontispiece to vol. 3 of Bodleian copy of first edition of ‘The Pirate’, 3 vols (1822), interpreted in Todd & Bowden 156Dk as containing the three plates from ‘Illustrations of The Pirate’ (1825). The image is identical to that at #LAD0021, from ‘The Lady’s Magazine’, vol. 3, no. 4 (April 1822). Title/caption reference (inaccurate) is to original edition; pencilled correction to ‘Page 297’ on present Bodleian copy. Engraver wrongly identified as Charles Heath in Todd & Bowden.
