Notes: Portrait of Oliver Cromwell in military uniform. A reengraving of a portrait published in Edmund Lodge's 'Portraits of Illustrious Personages of Great Britain' (1821), where it appears as no. 9 in vol. 7, with more background and an additional figure, a child, adjusting the sash around Cromwell's waist. Title/caption also supplies facsimile signature of 'Cromwell'. Accompanying quoted text: 'He was a man of middle stature . . . depth of thought.' [Ch. 8].
