Notes: Depicts the elderly John Armstrong (The Laird's Jock), standing loosely clad in his paid/blankets, with arm upraised in a posture of horror, his daughter clinging to his side; in the middle ground the English champion Foster stands over the body of the Laird's defeated son, holding aloft the two-handed sword he has gained in the combat, while assembled troops look on. Later published in H. I. and A. Stevens 'Scott and Scotland' (London, 1845): see image.
