Notes: Depicts Jeanie Deans embracing her sister Effie in confinement in the Edinburgh Tolbooth, with Ratcliffe the jailer holding a key by an open shutter [Ch. 26]. Imprint of Hurst, Robinson, & Co., London (the secondary publishers on title-page). Also appears in 'The Waverley Album' (London: Charles Heath, [1832]), facing p. 19 (see image). Vol. also includes title-page vignette of the Heart of Mid-Lothian, with the Tolbooth in the middle ground, as in vol. 12 of 1821 12mo issue, but with engraver given as Charles Heath. A reengraving of this image appears in the Centenary edition of the Waverley Novels: see #CEN0013.
