Notes: Depicts Tod Willie surrounded by his hounds in wild Border countryside; based, according to Skene's commentary, on a sketch taken in 1804, when he was accompanying Scott on an excursion 'among the wild pasture glens of Roxburgh and Dumfries-shire' (p. 27).
