Disliking a recent portrait by David Wilkie, Robert Cadell commissioned this portrait in March 1830. Also appears in 'Landscape-Historical Illustrations of Scotland and the Waverley Novels' (London: Fisher, [1836-38]). A different engraving of the same portrait, by John Horsburgh, accompanies volume 33 of the Magnum Opus edition (see #MAG0065), and also appeared later in the Centenary edition of the Waverley Novels (see #CEN0001).
