Notes: Depicts Effie leaning against a wall, alongside a collie dog, in conversation with Robertson (with smart bonnet, cravat, and tunic) on the other side of the wall. Apparently not incident-specific, but probably stemming from Jeanie Deans's question to her sister: 'And wha was that parted wi' ye at the stile' [Ch. 10]. Painted in 1877.
