Notes: Depicts Jeanie Deans seated on a bed holding hands with and comforting her sister Effie in confinement in the Edinburgh Tolbooth, with Ratcliffe the jailer looking on in the background and dangling the keys [Ch. 21]. Matches #EHM0004, but with different engraver. Painting exhibited at Royal Scottish Academy in 1873, inscribed "RH 1872".
